Northern Region Primary Immunodeficiency Diseases (PIDs) Seminar 2019

October 3, 2019

Management and research of PIDs especially in Malaysia are met with many obstacles. Access to PIDs specialist care in Malaysia is a huge problem that needs to be address. Management of PIDs are complex and challenging for non-immunologist, and among primary care doctors (general practitioners and paediatricians) to identify PIDs within the wide range of potential cases and to decide when to start further investigating a patient for PIDs. In addition, there is a lack of awareness of PIDs among the public and health care workers alike, resulting in diagnostic delay. This seminar was held with the main objective to create greater awareness on PID, to ensure PID patients in Malaysia can be diagnosed, treated, and lead productive lives. The agenda included in the one day seminar included introduction to PID, prevention and management of infection, treatment options, immune dysregulations, flow cytometry as a versatile and powerful diagnostic tool for PID along with the genetic aspects of PID.
